Oprah finally passed, but had she taken it on, Octavia Spencer would've been spot on opposite her. Better fit, to my thinking than MacDonald. And while we're in Bates roles, Spencer would re-mint "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair du Lune." Why not with another MVP from the supporting players of 2017, Michael Stuhlbarg, a Juilliard actor who can disappear into any role.
Just parlor game casting, but Spencer is decidedly a Bates-like gift to wonderful female roles. Would love to see her on B'way. |
