I saw Channing in an early-90's tour and Midler in April -- I was definitely wowed by both of them. I caught Karen Ziemba in a local production in 2013 -- she was OK, but not really right for the role. I saw Murphy in May -- I liked her more than you -- her pipes are still top notch and she's a great actress -- she had me choked up in a number of scenes, but I agree that she doesn't have the "wow" essence of Channing or Midler.
I saw Streisand in the film with my college roommate back in '69 -- I enjoyed seeing it on the big screen at the time, but today I find the film unwatchable. I think the best Dolly I've ever encountered is Shirley Booth in The Matchmaker film. I'm going to try to see Bernadette in February if I can put a trip together in the next few days. |
