The Children

This is a very good play by Lisa Kirkwood with an excellent cast. It concerns a Fukashima-like nuclear power plant disaster and three elderly scientists who designed and ran the plant when it opened 30 (or so) years ago. They were close, but one physicist, superbly played by Francesca Annis, drifted away to America -- now she's back. Ron Cook and Deborah Findley are a married couple with grown children. It's heart wrenching and troubling. The 2 hour intermissionless play went by very quickly (I was so engaged). Some in the audience seemed confused (in overheard conversations) -- I teach nuclear topics and was involved in supplying facts in a high school during the 3 mile hour disaster/confusion... so I can't judge whether the problems and urgency are clearly related by the author. The writing was first rate -- intelligent, humored and theatrical. I want to see other plays by Ms Kirkwood -- I understand her "Mosquitoes" is coming.
