Of course, actors play characters who are younger (and older) than themselves in real life all the time.
For the record, Timothee Chamalet just turned 22 a few days, so he would've been 20 when he played Elio during the filming of ''Call Me by Your Name.'' Just before that, the 20-year-old actor played the 15-year-old Jim in John Patrick Shanley's ''Prodigal Son'' at MTC.
If you don't buy Armie Hammer as 24, so be it; that's your issue and explained your genuine concern. But for others of us, it was a non-issue. Hammer never looked ''thirtysomething'' to me; some 24-year-olds look younger than 24, and some look older. Ultimately, we found Hammer convincing where it mattered the most: in the love story. He and Chalamet had amazing chemistry, and ''Call Me'' rises and falls on that. |
