| No need to nitpick when you're absolutely right. I hadn't meant to characterize the traffic as one-way - it's simply that these days most of the reputation-building is largely done on the various sorts of screen, after some early experience that may or may not build a reputation on the stage. There's a post further down that praises Mary Testa's work in two recent TV appearances, but doesn't say anything about her virtual ownership of Off-Broadway laugh-getting in last summer's The Government Inspector or currently in The Portuguese Kid. The traffic is and always has been two-way, but we're in a time when film and video definitely take precedence in the public mind, even among theatre fans. |
