But the decade-long runs predicted did not materialize in New York. I'm not saying Harry is going to flop on Broadway; Billy and Matilda didn't either. In fact, I think it will be really big here too. But when a show is really big on Broadway, a three-year run is what it gets. Four or five, maybe (though for the past thirty years at least, four- and five-year runs have been limited exclusively to musicals.) Ten-year runs are, almost always, pipe dreams, and for straight plays they always are. |
