Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

There are a lot of wonderful elements here - but somehow they don't add up to a satisfying, coherent whole. The music is beautiful, the musicians incredibly talented, the mezzo soprano has a lovely, supple voice and then there's Robert Fairchild - his movement/choreography is so interesting you can't take your eyes off him. He's also very charismatic on stage. He's got that elusive X factor that differentiates a star from just another talented performer.

I think the problem lies in the script. It's trying to do too many things and doesn't succeed at any. Jettison the parallel narratives. I'd pay to see the musicians, singer and Mr Fairchild telling the Frankenstein story. That's your show. And that alone would be damn good.

I'm not sorry I saw it, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it except for fans of Mr. Fairchild who want a chance to see him in this smallish venue. He doesn't disappoint. The play itself does.
