It's perfectly fair to write that you feel the play is denigrating Catholicism because it uses elements of the ritual in its pan-theistic creation of a new religion (though I would challenge you to unhysterically say why that is a denigration, rather than a recycling). And for what it's worth, as originally written, all of the men in the audience were supposed to receive their own baby for that service... I guess that the realities of Off-Broadway budgets necessitated one baby instead of 100. I always felt that the worship sections in the play had more to do with hippy cults than Catholics, but we all bring in our own reference points.
