He's as good, in a much larger role, in "Shape of Water," and in a smaller role, in "The Post." In "Water" he has one of the most compelling arcs I've ever seen in a fantasy. But of course, the "Call Me..." scene -- an 11 o'clock spot that lands because he expertly refuses to play it thus -- resonates because we've probably never seen it before.
