I agree with you completely about The Band’s Visit. I found it profoundly moving, sensitive and artful. Whereas I found Come from Away, to which it is often compared, loud, vulgar, insensitive and self-congratulatory. And no, MFL does not open with Loverly. But the original did open with a big sort of ballet before Why Can’t the English. I believe subsequent productions
have wisely cut that. It will be interesting to see what Bartlett Sher does with it. |
