...this show has not been very well-received and it's possible that there was simply no extra demand that night. I assume they sell all their own unsold tickets first (house seats, other held seats and the like) before they sell returns.
I've never been a fan of most box offices in London. Their staff are often cold and unhelpful.
An exception- especially recently- is the National Theatre staff who seem to be completely on the side of the theatregoing public. I have had numerous encounters with them recently where they were informative and helpful and seemed to appreciate the lengths to which I was going to see one of their many sold-out performances.
I understand box office (and front-of-house) staff must suffer from patron fatigue: there are a lot of ***holes out there in the dark who are high-handed and demanding when things are not going there way 100%. And because the average age of theatregoers is so high, you are often talking about people who are not in the best of health or mental acuity.
But I like to think that I present as a friendly, rational person- wishful thinking?- and I am always surprised at the unsmiling, sour faces that greet me at box offices. |
