I do not know about NYC, but she is produced a lot. Whenever I travel, it always seems like someone is running one of her plays.
Her work may not be the deepest, but she knows how to get an audience to engage with characters and situations. Whenever I have seen one of her plays, even when the production is not very good, the audience loves it. Exit, Pursued by a Bear is my favorite--some genuine laughs and some reassuring melodrama.
Imagine a Lisa D'Amour or Sarah Ruhl without the preciousness and you get a sense of what Gunderson does. |
