| Why, then, is she working in theater and not TV? |

An ability to get an audience to engage with characters and situations while not necessarily writing the deepest stuff seems to be much less the territory or inspiration or need of committed playwrights, especially those being produced in the much less lucrative-even-than-nyc regional spaces, and much better suited to TV where they are paid vastly more and their work exposed to vastly more viewers.
I won't knock anyone committed to theater, but it's odd to me to even commit to writing anything as a play these days if you're not writing something visceral, deep, experimental, or epic and theatrical. If you're good at what she does -- which seems to be writing a standard but pretty good/decent story and character script - why not work in TV where they eat that up (i don't necessarily mean HBO or FX, but so many other networks). There's just so much more money to be had! |
