No, I didn't think it got that deep. She grew tired of the affair with the guy who was becoming too needy, and she wanted to end the affair and make her husband happy with the job (by any means necessary) & continue with her open marriage.

I thought it was a superb play and impeccably acted. So much better than all those terrible reviews it got from the out-of-touch press (who I thought would have eaten it up due to all the far-left vitriol at the very end). Received a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience. The entire cast was simply sublime and I highly recommend it! The 1 hour 40 minutes flies by.

The question wasn't primarily about the reason for ending the affair. The question is about revealing potentially catastrophic info to a woman with the power to make or break her husband's career is important. It seemed a crucial faux pas but had an unclear impact on the rest of the plot. For this and other reasons, the play didn't seem superb to me, but an enjoyable way to spend some time. My taste tends to sync up with the major critics, so t. hey tend to touch me right where I live.

Yeah, I agree 100% with summertheater. While it might not have been the greatest play I've ever seen, I was shocked as to how harshly it was treated by the critics after I went to see it. Very enjoyable with a great cast.

I don't think the reveal about being in neither political party hurt the husband's chances. I think it was clear from the party scene that he just wasn't one of the top candidates, just a dark horse. This was according to the Blair Brown character. I think his name was thrown in as a result of his political connections but that he wasn't at the top of the list. Then, when Chloe rejects Peter, he makes sure that Tom is out. Which sets Uma's character into taking action by blackmail.

I agree. I think the script was weak but didn't deserve the pounding that it received by the critics. It was topical, fun and I liked the acting. I rather enjoyed this more than METEOR SHOWER, which was trying to be grander and failed.

Do you not agree that a great deal of what happens in this play is well beyond credibility in the real world? Or do you think that was intentional, and the play is not supposed to be viewed as remotely realistic? I'd be very curious to hear your thoughts on this.
