| I'm trying to reconnect with my passion for musical theater this year and am doing a 52 Cast Recordings in 52 Weeks project to discover a lot of gems or more obscure albums that I haven't heard before. I know you don't know what I have or haven't heard, but I was hoping you brilliant folks could give me some suggestions? I'm well-versed in most of the "bigs" but am not averse to hearing an alternate recording from a concert or different city that you think is a must-listen, but I'd love to hear about some of those hidden treasures out there. Thanks for your help, y'all! | |

| A few more to add to many of the excellent suggestions already made; among others already noted, King of Hearts, My Favorite Year, Take Me Along, and Ben Franklin in Paris It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman Fanny New Girl in Town High Spirits Darling of the Day The Happy Time Over Here Seesaw The Grand Tour Shenandoah Minnie's Boys Carmelina Sweet Smell of Success Rex Do I Hear a Waltz Two by Two Hallelujah Baby Among more recent shows that didn't have long runs, I particularly like the CDs of Catch Me If You Can, SideShow, The Last Ship, and Bandstand, to name a few that come to mind. Not all the shows on this list have great scores throughout, but there are some truly wonderful songs in each of them. |

| I did not know there was a cast album available for King of Hearts. I remember seeing this show, which while wasn't gerat, had some of the most beautiful sets I recall seeing. On what label is the OCR? |

| I've directed two productions of the show. It is very heart-felt and lovely. Its' strength comes from its characters. I fear the original Broadway production tried to make it more of a spectacle than it needed to be. Did you know that when the show did its Pre-Broadway tour it starred Robbie Benson in the role that Don Scardino eventually played? | |

| MY FAVORITE YEAR, KING OF HEARTS and HOW NOW DOW JONES are three scores that I think are overlooked. These shows were panned by critics and didn't do well with audiences. I have never seen them staged, but I really, truly enjoy those scores. They are fun to listen to...and, in the case of KING OF HEARTS, really quite beautiful. | |

| Thanks, hugoP, for mentioning KING OF HEARTS. It's one of my favorite scores and does indeed have some beautiful music. While I didn't see the Broadway production, the Lincoln Community Playhouse in Nebraska had it in their season one year. They did a very commendable job with an essentially "lost" musical. | |

| glad to hear that Regional Theatres are doing that show-- maybe some day I'll get to see a staging of it! I know that some of the songs wind up in recitals and cabaret shows, but it really is a lovely score and the movie it was based on was also quite great (and topical!) | |
