Greatest Showman..... question
Posted by: ARReith1982 08:25 pm EST 01/07/18

Am I the only one who thought the songs were absolutely dreadful and did nothing for the show? Also, Lind is supposed to be an "opera" singer, but all she sang was a stupid pop song!

However, this film will clean up with the awards. Hugh Jackman is definitely Oscar worthy, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions as I don't know the competition that well. However, he is a gem in the entertainment field.

Gary oldman in darkest hour is pretty much a lock. James franco beat jackman for comedy or musical acting category.

Hollywood loves movies about filmmakers and their films.

It's been a few years since I've paid attention to the "all that jazz" that goes on Hollywood's Red Carpets during the awards season
tuned in last night to E to see "why they are wearing?" instead of the usual snooze fest question "who are they wearing? "

There was a Broadway moment when they asked young Gaten Matarazzo, one of the stars of hit series STRANGER THINGS and the teen on his bike talking up FIOS
on the Verizon tv commercials
(ad may not be running in NYC)

He was asked: who he was most excited to see at the Golden Globes
His quick response " Keala Settles, explaining they worked together in two Broadway shows
(recent revival of LES MISERABLES and PRISCILLA Queen of the Desert - The Musical - according to ibdb)

P&P singled out Keala Settles in their thank you speech for winning Best Song, "Remember Me" for the inspiration with her story in writing the song.
I remember Miss Settles when she was a standby for Tracy Turnblad in the first national tour of HAIRSPRAY at the Colonial
was hoping to catch her in HANDS ON A HARDBODY but it only ran a few months

Thanks for the report. For the record, Keala's last name is Settle -- no "s" at the end.

I thought Pasek & Paul could win a consecutive Globe for Song & expected ''Showman'' to lose Comedy/Musical & Jackman to lose to Franco.

If they win a consecutive Oscar for Song, they'd be the 1st to do it since Alan Menken for 1991 (''Beauty & the Beast'') and 1992 (''Aladdin'').

But it looks like Jackman was surprised or confused by Franco's win

Maybe Jackman hasn't been keeping track, but Franco's performance has been getting much more awards attention than his.

Jackman's only major awards recognition, so far, has been the Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical.

(The Australian AACTA international film awards nominated him for Best Actor, but it was for ''Logan,'' not ''The Greatest Showman.'')

Franco's landed nominations from the Globes, SAG, Indie Spirit and Critics' Choice, and he won the Gotham Film Award.

THIS IS ME, with its message of love and acceptance, has touched a chord with so many. It is as much a part of the story as other main themes of the movie. It is also beautifully sung by Keala Settle!
