What part of it do you think ALW wasn't trying to hide? That he used the same melody in more than one of his shows, or that the melody sounds like one that originally written by someone else for another work? For what it's worth, although the main melody in question here is certainly very Puccini-esque, I don't recognize it as a specific Puccini melody, but I do hear the strong similarity to the "Theme from THE APARTMENT."
