| This survey says that playgoers buy an average of 9 tickets; musical attendees an average of 4. Playgoers really like theater; musical goers are Broadway tourists, whether they are from the NYC area or from elsewhere. More curious to me is that with so few straight plays on Broadway, can this make sense? It may be, it probably is, that survey completers don't have a clear idea of the difference between Broadway and off-Broadway. Those 9 average straight plays may not all have been on Broadway. https://www.broadwayleague.com/press/press-releases/the-broadway-league-reveals-the-demographics-of-the-broadway-audience-for-the-2016-17-season/ |

| We don't know how the questions were worded on the actual survey, but the press release just says that the Broadway playgoer saw nine shows in the past year. and the Broadway musical attendee saw four. It doesn't say that the nine/four shows were Broadway shows, nor does it specify whether those nine/four shows are plays or musicals. (It also doesn't say if nine/four are averages or medians or what.) My interpretation would be that the nine/four shows are ANY shows: Broadway or local, play or musical. The general idea that playgoers are more avid theater consumers than musical attendees is probably true. I'm not sure that we can read a whole lot else into the press release, given how unclear it is. |

| Are these annual demographics put out by the Broadway League taken seriously by the industry? I have no idea. It's data culled from questionaires taped to the back of seats from what I understand. You can buy the report from the Broadway League but the site selling it doesn't even list how large the data pool was that the report is based on. | |

| Maybe there aren't as few plays as you think? Last season was around 45 productions, slightly more than half plays. Subscribe to Roundabout, MTC and LCT and that's five or maybe seven right there. |

| "Maybe there aren't as few plays as you think? Last season was around 45 productions, slightly more than half plays. " If you're talking about new Broadway productions during the season, it makes sense that the number of play productions would be relatively high, because plays almost always have far shorter runs than musicals on Broadway. Maybe be more relevant statistic is, how many plays as compared to musicals are running on Broadway at any one time? And the answer to that would be, "far fewer." |

| You're absolutely right. There were 21 straight plays that opened in Broadway houses in the 2016-2017 season, if you include "Oh, Hello on Broadway" as a play. Nine of those were revivals which has nothing to do with the survey. There were also one circus, one magic show, two concerts, and one personal appearance by Alton Brown. The rest musicals, of which seven were revivals, although that also has nothing to do with the survey. See IBDB.COM | |

| Is it possible that no one who reads this forum received the survey? I mean yes of COURSE it's possible... but we should all make a pact going forward to record and report the questions if we do! | |

| My sister got one when I took my family to Finian's Rainbow however many years ago that was. I don't know if I didn't look carefully or just don't remember, but I couldn't tell you with any specificity what the questions were. I think mainly the demographic sort stuff the press release calls out. It's not an involved form at all. | |
