This survey says that playgoers buy an average of 9 tickets; musical attendees an average of 4. Playgoers really like theater; musical goers are Broadway tourists, whether they are from the NYC area or from elsewhere.
More curious to me is that with so few straight plays on Broadway, can this make sense? It may be, it probably is, that survey completers don't have a clear idea of the difference between Broadway and off-Broadway. Those 9 average straight plays may not all have been on Broadway.
