Hershey Felder brings acclaimed Berlin, Bernstein, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven one-man shows to US stages in 2018

Leonard Bernstein, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven
one-man shows to U.S. stages throughout 2018

Award-winning actor, author and piano virtuoso HERSHEY FELDER will be touring throughout the U.S. in 2018 with his acclaimed one-man shows, OUR GREAT TCHAIKOVSKY, HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN, HERSHEY FELDER AS LEONARD BERNSTEIN IN MAESTRO, and HERSHEY FELDER: BEETHOVEN. Following is a list of upcoming engagements, with additional dates to be announced.

Starting tonight, January 10 through February 11, 2018, Felder stars in OUR GREAT TCHAIKOVSKY for TheatreWorks at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro Street in Mountain View, CA. www.theatreworks.org. The production, which has been performed throughout the U.S. and in London’s West End, has been hailed as “a powerful emotional experience” by the San Diego Union-Tribune, and as “a poignant and vivid portrayal of Tchaikovsky, his musical milieu and personal torment” by The Stage (UK).

On the day of its first performance, OUR GREAT TCHAIKOVSKY has already broken the house record for the 48-year-old theatre company, with over $710,000 in advance sales. The production is on track to surpass the theatre’s highest grossing show of all time, which was a cumulative gross of over $1 million for the 2017 engagement for HERSHEY FELDER: BEETHOVEN.

From February 23 through March 18, 2018, Felder will bring HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN to Seattle Repertory Theatre, 155 Mercer Street, Seattle, WA. www.seattlerep.org. Since its premiere, HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN has played 12 record-breaking engagements at some of the country’s leading theatres, including the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where it was called “richly entertaining and touching” by The Los Angeles Times, Chicago’s Royal George Theatre, where the Chicago Tribune said it delivers “a great deal of pleasure to the good people of Chicagoland,” and the Majestic Theatre in Boston, where the Boston Globe hailed it as “a warm portrait of an unassuming genius.”

Celebrating the Bernstein Centennial, Felder will present HERSHEY FELDER AS LEONARD BERNSTEIN IN MAESTRO, for three performances only, March 20-21, 2018, at the McCallum Theatre, 73000 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, CA. www.mccallumtheatre.com. MAESTRO has been performed more than 600 times around the world, earning critical acclaim and standing ovations.

HERSHEY FELDER: BEETHOVEN will be presented May 16 through May 27, 2018 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach, CA. www.lagunaplayhouse.com. In HERSHEY FELDER: BEETHOVEN, Felder presents some of the legendary German composer’s greatest works, from the “Moonlight Sonata” to the “Ninth Symphony” and the “Emperor Concerto.” The show has been heralded as “a hypnotic production…a chamber music piece of exquisite beauty,” by the Chicago Sun-Times.

HERSHEY FELDER AS IRVING BERLIN will be performed from June 7 through June 24, 2018 at the Cleveland Play House, 1501 Euclid Avenue #200, Cleveland, OH. www.clevelandplayhouse.com.

Combining first person narrative, and his own music as well as music that inspired him, Hershey Felder as Leonard Bernstein in MAESTRO is a tale spanning the entire 20th century. Bernstein, one of America’s greatest musicians, broke through every artistic ceiling possible to become the world’s musical ambassador. Conductor, composer, pianist, author, teacher, librettist, television star…for Leonard Bernstein, boundaries simply did not exist.

Recently named to Time Magazine’s 2016 Top 10 Plays and Musicals, HERSHEY FELDER has played over 4,500 performances of his self-created solo productions at some of the world’s most prestigious theatres and has broken box office records consistently. American Theatre Magazine has said, “Hershey Felder is in a category all his own.” His shows include: George Gershwin Alone (Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theatre, West End’s Duchess Theatre); Monsieur Chopin; Beethoven; Maestro (Leonard Bernstein); Franz Liszt in Musik, Lincoln: An American Story, Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, and Our Great Tchaikovsky. His newest work, UNE HISTOIRE D’AMOUR A PARIS, A Paris Love Story, featuring the music of Claude Debussy, will premiere in 2019 at a theatre on the West Coast. His compositions and recordings include Aliyah, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra; Fairytale, a musical; Les Anges de Paris, Suite for Violin and Piano; Song Settings; Saltimbanques for Piano and Orchestra; Etudes Thematiques for Piano; and An American Story for Actor and Orchestra. Hershey is the adaptor, director and designer for the internationally performed play with music, The Pianist of Willesden Lane; as well as producer and designer for the musical Louis and Keely: ‘Live’ at the Sahara, directed by Taylor Hackford; and writer and director for the upcoming Flying Solo, featuring opera legend Nathan Gunn, as well as two solo stage works, Women on a Ledge, for harpist Rita Costanzi, and The Story of My Cello for cello virtuoso, Antonio Lysy. Current upcoming composition projects include: EDITH, an opera, based on the story of British nurse Edith Cavell; a Washington Irving musical, and Chosen By God, a musical journey based on journalist Joshua Hammer’s memoir. He has been a scholar-in-residence at Harvard University’s Department of Music and is married to Kim Campbell, the first female Prime Minister of Canada.
