It's funny, the laugh MUST have struck something in you to think it would be ok if it only happened twice...since it only happens 3 times. ("...wherever he is, I'm not sure." [laugh] "...heavy veil." [laugh] "...then push!" [laugh] have been delivered consistently at every performance I've seen) Technically, only the second laugh is specified in the published script, but it's described with a "laughs, slaps her knee" stage direction, so the scale Feldstein takes it to seems within reason.
I don't know that making it a conditional term for Feldstein would make much of a difference, though. Understudy Haley Podschun delivered a nearly identical laugh in the same 3 places when I saw her on as Minnie. |
