| SpeakEasy Stage Company’s New England premiere production of SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE is a meaty, fast-paced comic romp with lots of sizzle to go with that steak. Jennifer Ellis and new leading man in town, George Olesky, are a match made in heaven, surrounded by a talented ensemble that includes Nancy E. Carroll, Remo Airaldi, Eddie Shields, and Lewis D. Wheeler. Director Scott Edmiston wrangles a cast of 18 into a cohesive bundle of joy. Performances through February 10 at Wimberly Theatre, Calderwood Pavilion, Boston Center for the Arts. | |

| Caught my eye because I used to be a New England Resident. Saw many shows at SpeakEasy in the early days. Just saw Shakespeare in Love at Asolo Rep, Sarasota Fl with cast of 26 including the dog. Big, splashy, eye popping production. Big $$. I don't imagine SpeakEasy could produce this as lavishly. | |

| Well, I wouldn't call it a lavish production, but it doesn't look cheap. I took a peek at the Asolo website and saw a video that shows the set and some of the costumes - definitely bigger deal than SpeakEasy. However, they probably saved some bucks by double casting and using 18 rather than 26 actors, but they have many of the finest Boston actors, including some with impressive Shakespeare cred. Look at the SpeakEasy website for production photos, if you're interested. The show is getting very positive reviews. Also, you'd probably be pleased with the artistic growth of the company since their early days. |
