Broadway Grosses 1/14 — Bette Midler exits 'Dolly' with $90.4 million gross; 'Charlie' and 'Saigon' close

  • Last week, which ended January 14 and included the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, Broadway grosses totaled $32,948,206 for 29 shows.

    In the prior week, which ended January 7, Broadway grosses totaled $32,207,509 for 29 shows.

    In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $25,872,048 for 25 shows.




  • Broadway did well last week, roughly about the same as the prior week, grossing 85% of the collective potential gross for the 29 shows on the boards. As usual, Hamilton, Springsteen on Broadway, Hello, Dolly! and Dear Evan Hansen had sky high grosses and average ticket prices.

    — Bette Midler concluded her Hello, Dolly! engagement at the Shubert Theatre on Sunday. The final week's gross, for 7 performances, was $2,436,208 or 148.5% of its potential gross. The average ticket price was $237. Those were typical grosses across the sold-out run which had a cumulative gross of $90,392,174 for 34 previews and 300 regular performances. Hello, Dolly! is on hiatus until January 20 when Bernadette Peters takes over the title role.

    — Charlie and the Chocolate Factory closed an unsuccessful run at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre on Sunday after 27 previews and 305 regular performances. Cumulative gross: $43,679,424 or 76% of its potential gross. The average ticket price over the run was almost $100. Its last few weeks were strong.

    — The revival of Miss Saigon closed at the Broadway Theatre on Sunday after a disappointing run of 24 previews and 340 regular performances.Cumulative gross: $36,259,976 or about 58% of its potential gross. The average ticket price for most of the run was about $85.
