I asked this very question here and everyone showed me that this was always the intended closing date but Dramady also pointed out they would have probably extended the imited run had it been grossing 2 million a week every week. Thye are going to tour this version.

Not a disappointing run -- but only if it's goal was to lose money!

It was a commercial production that closed without recouping, so in that sense the run was disappointing. Most likely the producers would have extended if turning a profit on Broadway was feasible. Of course, it is quite possible that it will recoup on the road.
