Fascinating Documentary "The Opera House"
Posted by: Zelgo 02:57 pm EST 01/18/18

I saw this yesterday at the movie theatre (Fathom Event), but it's sure to show up soon on PBS and/or Netflix.

The Opera House is about the creation of the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. The archival video of the Old MET and of the UWS tenements that were razed to make room for Lincoln Center, I've never seen before,

There is a strong focus on the great American soprano Leontyne Price, who starred Samuel Barber's opera ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, world premiering on opening night--lots of backstage footage of Director Franco Zeffirelli pushing the production together.

I saw it on 1/17/18 as well, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of interesting information about the creation of Lincoln Center and the Met, and Leontyne Price remains an absolute delight at age 90. Very touching to see her singing and joyfully remembering her early years at the Met.
