Those are more or less along the same lines I was thinking. Another way to look at it is that students can learn different things from doing different types of shows. Of course I agree they should also do scores/shows that are generally regarded as better in quality and more challenging, but I do think there is some value in doing a show like SISTER ACT. For what it's worth, this same program at NYU recently did AMOUR. I think it's wise for the faculty to choose a mix of different styles of shows/scores, as with these two examples. |
