I'll give you Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Little Shop (though vastly better as a show and for students than Sister Act), and The Wizard of Oz... but...
Seussical at least demands imagination and requires the actors to become something other than the normal generic musical theater character.
Jesus Christ Superstar not only has some very challenging vocal demands but also offers big challenges with acting.
Fun Home is one of the best, most acclaimed pieces of musical theater in the last 2 decades... not sure how this made your list
Violet, like the above, offer complex characters and scenes with lots of good parts and difficult music, and is an excellent and acclaimed show.
Me and My Girl at least offers a more legit "old fashioned" experience, I'd sooner do this with students than Sister Act.
Urinetown is an actually hilarious musical comedy that mixes styles and is tough to pull off. I don't think this fits in your list either.
Hair... I'm not sure why this is on your list either. Challenging in style, period, ensemble, very difficult score, acting, and an amazing show.
I don't know what Melancholy Play is. |
