| I don't think Aristotle would disagree at all. A musical theatre performance (and the musical itself for that matter) is more than 12 tracks on a cast recording. You can't possibly asses the work by listening only to a recording. You can asses the vocal performance or the score perhaps, but not the work as a whole...which would be in line with Aristotlean criticism, no? I think the Aristotle reference was to the (all too common) misuse of "begs the question" lol. Asses??? ;-) |

| And it seems - while technically wrong - my usage has become acceptable (at least according to Merriam-Webster) and the original usage is listed as "formal." Language is fascinating. Thanks for the correction. I was so wrong I was right. | |

| I agree (including that language is fascinating). I don't think M-W would disagree that it became acceptable some time after Aristotle's time. So Gary is still correct and I am happy to report that you are all still pretty. | |

| I shall take M-W's advice and "cultivate an attitude of serene detachment in the face of its use by others". (Actually pretty good advice for a variety of situations ). In truth, I suppose my post was, as much as anything, simply knee jerk reaction to the criticism of Bill's review which I do not consider to be confusing or ill-informed. |

| No hard feelings. I actually appreciate being corrected. It's how you learn. We shall have to disagree about the review however. :) |
