| The interesting thing about this release is the audio commentary by Leslie Bricusse who discusses his Broadway shows quite a bit in the commentary. He speaks of how David Merrick ruined PICKWICK by bringing in other composers despite it being a hit in London. Lots of talk about shows like "Stop the World" and "Roar of the Greasepaint" as well as the stage version of "Doctor Dolittle". The film looks fantastic and features an isolated music score so you can listen to the wonderful orchestrations. Another Twilight release that might be interesting to theater goers is THE MEMBER OF THE WEDDING which has an audio commentary by several film historians and McCullers biographer. |

| Would you believe my parents went to the reserved seat engagement but didn't take the kids.😢They did however bring me back the souvenir lobby program. I did buy the soundtrack album as a cutout. I've attempted to watch the film several times but never got through it. Lastly, I have been to Marigot Bay in St. Lucia which was a shooting location. Absolutely beautiful. Despite my missing out on the film I did become an avid fan of the Hugh Lofting books. | |

| I don't think the film is all that good, but it was one of the last attempts by a big studio to put out a roadshow musical. It almost destroyed 20th Century Fox. But I really love Bricusse's score and the primary reason I bought this blu-ray was because of his audio commentary and the isolated score. He doesn't limit the conversation to DOCTOR DOLITTLE; he talks about the shows I mentioned in my original post, but also talks about "Victor/Victoria", "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (from the sound of it the Broadway production was just about to open when they recorded his commentary), "Goodbye Mr. Chips", "My Fair Lady", "Fiddler on the Roof", "Scrooge" and an upcoming UK revival of the stage version of DOLITTLE with animals recreated by the puppeteers from "War Horse". He also drops quite a few names from Golden Era of Broadway and Hollywood. I was so intrigued by his stories that I decided to buy his book "Pure Imagination". Apparently, Fox is planning a 50th Anniversary release of the film made from the original prints and the commentary will be on that, so I may have purchased this prematurely. Although, if it's a 50th Anniversary release, then it should have come out in 2017. BTW, La La Land records has just released a deluxe two disc limited edition soundtrack that has all of the incidental music as well as other unreleased recordings from the film. |
