I was not much impressed with Groff when he first came on the scene...I didn't think he was doing anything special in SPRING AWAKENING or HAIR and he was terrible, albeit totally miscast, in THE BACCHAE. But I have to say that I've been really impressed with his television work in LOOKING and MINDHUNTER. I don't know if he's improved or if he's getting material that is more up his alley or maybe if television is just more his medium, but, if you haven't seen MINDHUNTER on Netflix, it's definitely worth checking out. And it's been renewed for a second season.
Regarding Jackman and OKLAHOMA!, I had thought I remembered that the reason for Jackman not coming to New York with it was the long lag time between London and New York due to Trevor Nunn's (and possibly Susan Stroman's) busy calendar. By the time the production made it to New York, Jackman was committed to movies and unable to do it. It's a shame because, by all accounts, the production was a revelation in London...but...by the time it came here, it seemed to have lost its shine. I wonder if the absence of Jackman was part of that. I remember thinking that Patrick Wilson was perfectly fine in the role. |
