| Interesting to ponder: If the Darin show does come to Broadway in more or less the same form in which it was done at 92Y, it will be different from other biomusicals (such as BEAUTIFUL and ON YOUR FEET) in that it features narration as direct address by the actors to the audience, rather than having the actors play Darin and the other people in his life. I honestly don't remember much about LENNON, but wasn't that a similar concept? (I can pretty much guarantee you that the Darin show will be far more successful on Broadway than LENNON was if, in fact, it does make the transfer.) As you may have read, Ted Chapin apparently saw DREAM LOVER in Australia, and that gave him the idea for the 92Y show. The creators of the Australian musical were given credit in the program for the Y show, and I don't believe there was a separate writing credits, so I'm guessing that most or all of the narration was taken from DREAM LOVER? |
