Ha, I basically see him as that since didn't he write most of his plays in like 1 or 2 years writing in a cabin in Ireland or something like that? And then they were all subsequently produced in the UK then here?
But just to clarify, it's not about if they've had plays produced since 1980, 90 or 00... it's about how many they've had produced since their DEBUT which would need to be at least after 1980 if not 1990 to count for this discussion. Stoppard and Mamet have had several since the 90s and 00s, too, and have others, but a big part of the point here is that they weren't already established in major NYC productions before this. A playwright who debuted in the (late) 90s and has had 6 shows on Broadway since is quite a different thing than a writer who became famous/acclaimed/viable/built an audience/name 10-30 years prior also having plays on broadway in the 90s/00s. Am I making the distinction clear? |
