Oh, yes, especially the last part as done by Darin ("give her the real thing"). Artificial Flowers scared the hell out of me as a kid (I knew nothing of Tenderloin).
His Mack the Knife was not traditional either, right ("down by the river, don'tcha know ...")?
But I would recommend Darin's album "Oh! Look at Me Now" in which he sings, if I remember correctly, more traditional versions of some standards. I'm sure the album is out of print, but I think the songs are on a compilation disc. It was my favorite. |
