| I'm pretty sure there was a line in the narration of the Bobby Darin show at 92Y that directly addressed the fact that, in both "Mack the Knife" and "Artificial Flowers" (and probably a few other songs I can't think of at the moment), Darin very purposely offered up-tempo, swinging versions of very dark songs. But yes, the situation is a little more complicated with "Artificial Flowers" because, as noted, the song was originally written as sort of a parody. |
