Has there ever been a teenager playwright on Broadway?
Shelagh Delaney was a teenager when she wrote A Taste of Honey, though she was almost 22 by the time it was produced on Broadway. I suspect that there have been quite a few plays on Broadway that were written by teenagers, but teenagers who were not still teenagers by the time the play reached Broadway. There may even have been a few--most likely, back in the wild-and-woolly era before 1920 or so--whose authors were still teenagers when the show was actually being produced. Certainly in that era, there were plenty of teenage songwriters whose songs were interpolated into Broadway musicals. |
