Excellent points, but I guess these are just the sort of real-life questions we're not supposed to ask about stories like this, which require an extra-high level of suspension of disbelief for them to work at all.
As for the time period of the musical, I would say that it will almost have to be a period piece for the reasons mentioned -- but that would present its own set of challenges. So it will be very interesting to see what decision is made in that regard. |
