I also think, to a point, your argument doesn't hold. None of the other artists you mentioned are alive, or part of our current era.
If somehow Shakespeare were alive and writing now, in our current zeitgeist, we might well feel differently about performing his works. 100 years from now, people might not care so much.
Most likely, a few generations from now, no one will care about the allegations against Allen, Spacey, Levine, etc. The history of the allegations will still be there, but I tend to think their art will be looked upon in a kinder way, as we now look at Wagner or Eliot's works. |
