Although I thought including some Spanish dialogue and even lyrics in WEST SIDE STORY sounded very creative and intriguing when I first heard the idea, I believe it's fair to say that many people -- apparently including the production team -- ultimately decided it didn't work very well. Other than that, in my opinion, almost every last one of Laurents' directorial "innovations" were horrendously bad ideas and ended up marring rather than enhancing one of the greatest musicals ever written
