Ha, well, yes, and that's what I can't comprehend about your position. it would of course be a different matter if the writers of the song-score of musicals (adapted for screen or original to screen) were included in the writing credit and nomination (hell in some musicals the composer and lyricist don't even get credits in the opening credits with the director, producer and "screenwriter"), but that is not the case. And it should be. But if it's not I don't see any logical reason why a song written for that property and not formerly eligible for this award should be ineligible.
And worse, it often encourages songwriters and producers to get another song written specifically for the film version and shoehorn it in just to get the songwriters a nom/win and the film another award it can be nominated for. That doesn't serve the movie at all. |
