| Yes yes. Traditionally, the Oscars didn't reward comedies with Best Picture status. Gandhi was a very serious-minded epic, so it got the recognition. I've often seen movie performances of which I thought, if this was on Broadway, they would win a Tony, but no hope for an Oscar. Remember the complaints when Marissa Tomei won an Oscar for her hilarious performance in My Cousin Vinny - including the insulting accusations that Jack Palance had read the wrong name? |
