| But of course Laurents still sat his own white tush in the director's chair. I'm sorry, I don't view translating two songs into Spanish as a "fresh take" on the show. I didn't see that production, but I wonder at the wisdom of Spanish lyrics for an audience the majority of which doesn't speak Spanish. If a skilled Latin director wanted to do West Side Story, then I'd say more power to them. But that's different than turning your nose up at a white director and screenwriter who want to do a film version because they're not Hispanic. | |
