| Dear Chazwaza, thanks for reading the post;........ My typing is poor(arthritis) so I usually compensate by putting dotdots............to break it up, if it's,(as my last post was) stream of consciousness......... I agree with you about "I Feel Pretty"--[ , a poorly educated non-[ English speaker would not have those rhymes in her song, but her brother Bernardo wouldn't' be an expert Ballet trained dancer either.........Re the Pretty lyric, I remember reading somewhere(Sondheim and Co book?) that Sondheim was proud of it until he met with friend Sheldon Harnick after a performance. Mr Harnick said something like. ' that I feel pretty lyric, Are you' sure Steve?' and thus "lyric-[shamed", (to be anachronistic about it,) Mr Sondheim. who has 'dissed' his own lyric ever since. ...... I think it's a perfect song, which(as Shall We Dance functions in King and I) can make the audience forget that Act one ended with two dead bodies on the stage. ' |
