Mr. Gere should not have been a stranger to the concept of dancing on screen considering he was in GREASE on Broadway
I believe it was Rex Reed who hated the film version of Grease complaining the director managed to cut off feat in many of the dance sequences.
Interesting to note, John Travolta was first offered the role of Billy Flynn in CHICAGO
as both Gere & Travolta have a history of being up for the same role in major films.
