There already IS an opera SORT of based on his life: Philip Glass' SATYAGRAHA. But it only concerns Gandhi's early adult life in South Africa.
I agree that much more could be done and opera would be an ideal form. But how many other composers are there today who could write an opera you would really enjoy seeing and hearing?
