| And yet I don't even think the rhymes sounds so unrealistic for someone learning English. It doesn't take much English knowledge to use words like "alarming" and "charming"... also, it's a bit preposterous to suddenly insist that the character singing lyrics means to be actually rhyming as some sort of exhibition of their skill with language. Characters sing in rhyme because that's how song lyrics are written, not because they have such an exceptional agility and vocabulary in their language that they can't help but rhyme. And the only words she uses in the song that I'd question if she'd know are "stunning and entrancing" and maybe "witty". Hardly worth the to-do Sondheim's made of it for the last few decades. |
