This idea comes up from time to time about the Chicago film editing the dances so you don't see the whole body, and I never tire of giving my response, which I will do again now:
From a pure dancing point of view, yes, it's nice to see the whole body. But in the case of Chicago, it's not ABOUT dancing, it's about razzle dazzle, sleight of hand. Are they doing their own dancing? Who knows, and that's the point. The editing of the dancing (and the editing in general) works perfectly for the thematic substance. |
