I get it...but I still feel like an award that contains the phrase "Lifetime Achievement" should mean a lifetime devoted to whatever industry is giving that award. There are so many artists and technicians in all fields who really have devoted their careers to Broadway, and the theatre in general, and just aren't very well known to the general public that it seems dishonest to me to give such an award to someone who hasn't done that, but is otherwise very well known.

Getting an award like that ultimately isn't going to mean much to someone like Julie Andrews who likely has more awards and more acclaim than most, but it likely would be a career high for any number of other working professionals in the theatre.

If they want to honor Julie Andrews, great. Just give her an honorary Tony and call up Broadway's best and brightest to sing her songs in tribute without cloaking in "Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre."
