Broadway Grosses 1/28 — So long to box-office records for 'Dolly' but 'Waitress' serves up new high

  • Last week, which ended January 28, Broadway grosses totaled $27,522,912 for 26 shows.

    In the prior week, which ended January 21, Broadway grosses totaled $27,684,234 for 27 shows.

    In the comparable week last year, Broadway grosses totaled $21,078,313 for 21 shows.





  • Broadway shows performed about the same as in the prior week with one less show on the boards (Meteor Shower) but also with a full week of Hello, Dolly! whereas the prior week had only two performances.

    — Hello, Dolly! isn't doing poorly now that Bernadette Peters stars, but the gross is far below what it was with Bette Midler in the title role. Still, the musical revival topped a million dollars for its first full week with Ms. Peters, grossing $1,171,765 or 79% of its potential gross for the usual 8 performances. The average admission price was $104.

    — With Sara Bareilles back as the star, Waitress, now with higher prices, grossed $1,626,478 last week, its best week in the run so far. With premium ticket sales, that number was 160% of potential gross.The average admission was $194 for the SRO musical. Ms. Bareilles has extended her engagement two weeks to March 11.
