| HAMLET ISN’T DEAD Proudly Presents "If you are not a huge Shakespeare goer, this is a great company to get your feet wet" -- Kaila Stokes, Theater in the Now (HID’s Merchant of Venice) "HID's brand incorporates intimate theatre stripped back to the text and buoyant interactions with the audience . . . the result is electric." -- Emily C. A. Snyder, Classical NYC (HID’s Henry V) MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Live Music, Love, and Lots of Laughs Written by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Directed by JAMES RIGHTMYER, JR LIMITED ENGAGEMENT MARCH 15 – 24, 2018 AT THE CENTER AT WEST PARK OPENING NIGHT IS THURSDAY, MARCH 15 AT 8 P.M. TICKETS ON SALE NOW AT MUCH_HIDO.EVENTBRITE.COM HAMLET ISN’T DEAD is pleased to announce their production of William Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, directed by James Rightmyer, Jr. MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, with live original music by James Overton, will play a two-week limited engagement at The Center at West Park, Balcony Theater (165 West 86th Street, NYC). Performances begin Thursday, March 15 and continue through Saturday, March 24. Opening Night is Thursday, March 15 (8 p.m.). Shakespeare's classic comedy MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING follows the ups and downs of love in the Italian countryside. The typical lovers Claudio and Hero are spoiled by the arch-villain Don John, while bickering Beatrice and Benedick need no help to make each other crazy. As with all Shakespearean comedies, the truth will out (though not without some obstruction from the bumbling constable Dogberry) and love wins the day. The production is assistant directed by David Andrew Laws and Elise Keller is the production stage manager, with Laura St. Pierre as assistant stage manager. MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING plays the following schedule: Thursday, March 15 at 8:00 pm Friday, March 16 at 8:00 pm Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm Thursday, March 22 at 8:00 pm Friday, March 23 at 8:00 pm Saturday, March 24 at 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm Tickets are $25-45 and are now available online at www.much_hido.eventbrite.com. Tickets may also be purchased in-person a half hour prior to performance. Running Time: 2 hours including one 15-minute intermission Website: www.hamletisntdead.com BIOGRAPHIES WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (Playwright) was a renowned English poet, playwright, and actor born in 1564, in Stratford-upon-Avon. His birthday is most commonly celebrated on 23 April (see When was Shakespeare born), which is also believed to be the date on which he died in 1616. Shakespeare was a prolific writer during the Elizabethan and Jacobean ages of British theatre (sometimes referred to as the English Renaissance or the Early Modern Period). Shakespeare’s plays are perhaps his most enduring legacy, but they are not the only things he wrote. Shakespeare’s poetry has also remained popular to this day. - Shakespeare.org JAMES RIGHTMYER, JR. (Director) has travelled the world to learn and perform Shakespeare. He's been a part of shows in England, France, the Netherlands and even Hong Kong. He also is an avowed non-traditionalist Shakespearean scholar and publishes articles and podcasts relevant to the bard's work. HAMLET ISN’T DEAD is New York City's 275th (or was it 175th?)-best theatre troupe, dedicated to producing the entire canon of William Shakespeare in chronological order. We bring our unique brand of theatre to all of our projects, be it our main stage productions, original content, or education opportunities. Many of our productions are highlighted by live music and a focus on the text and resonance of the stories. We like to think this is how Shakespeare would have done Shakespeare if he were alive today. With an emphasis on joyful, intimate, and irreverent play, Hamlet Isn't Dead is theatre you'll love, whether you like it or not. |
