Actually, recently watched a VERY funny Christopher Plummer interview as part of the extras in the 40th Anniversary SOUND OF MUSIC dvd set, & HE said Mary Martin approached HIM about playing Von Trapp in that original production...said she must have been starting to go a little "bonkers" (or something to that effect) since THEIR age difference was so huge!
